This magical symbol serves as a protective talisman, instilling soldiers with fearlessness and courage before battle. Warriors preparing for combat would inscribe the symbol on their foreheads and recite the incantation: "Ægishjálm er ég ber á brúni mér!" which translates to "I carry the Helm of Awe on my forehead!"
